What is Long-term care and who needs it?

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

Your path will be unique to you, and based on your preferences and circumstances, Sunshine HCSS can provide comprehensive services and support necessary to help you meet your health and personal care needs over an extended period. Most long-term care isn’t about medical care, but assistance with the 6 basic tasks of everyday living called the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Using the toilet
  • Transferring to or from bed or chair
  • Incontinence
  • Eating
Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)

Other long-term care services and supports include assistance with everyday tasks, called Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) such as:

  • Housework
  • Taking Medications
  • Managing Money
  • Preparing and cleaning up after meals
  • Shopping
  • Caring for pets
  • Hygienes
In-Home Care

Most people prefer to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. Sunshine Home Care Support Services helps you stay in your home with the people you love. However, when planning to receive long-term care in your home there are some things to consider and home adjustments to make including:

  • The condition of your home
  • Can it be modified to accommodate a wheelchair and/or other medical devices/equipments
  • Is there an availability of long-term care services in your area such as medical facilities or adult daycare
  • Are there needed services such as home-delivered meals, public transportation access
  • Tax and legal issues

As you or your loved one’s age, it’s always best to think now about how your current residence and community will support your long-term needs and services.

Cost & How-to-Pay

There are many kinds of long-term care services and supports and a wide range of costs for them. While some people may qualify for a public program to help pay for these expenses, most people use a variety of options, including long-term care insurance, personal income and savings, life insurance, annuities, and reverse mortgages to ensure they can pay for the care they require.

Sunshine Home Care Support Services specializes in available public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid to help offset long-term care costs. However, these programs have specific rules regarding what services are covered, how long you can receive benefits, whether or not you qualify and for what benefits, and out-of-pocket expenses.

To accurately plan for your long-term care needs, it is imperative to know the facts about the costs and benefits and to stay current on program changes. We will help you navigate through all the requirements.
